2008 May > SNAP DISCOVERS CHOCOLATE GROWING ON TREES!

On February 12, 2007, Chris Paterson and his girlfriend, Mary-Louise attended the Carpenter Hospice’s Annual Gala and won a trip! This past February they flew business class to sunny Dominican Republic. They thoroughly enjoyed one week, all inclusive at Sunvillage Resort and Spa. Thank you so much Carpenter Hospice for all you do! The pair had the pleasure of reuniting with mary-louise’s “long lost” cousin Kelly Ferguson (former Oakville resident!) and her family, Heriberto, Yannibel, Massiel and Darlyn. Now, here comes the chocolate discovery…on a very adventurous and educational trip through the countryside to the interior village of Los Hidalgos and the Gonzalez homestead, we saw coffee beans, a mango tree, bananas hanging upside down, cashews perched on their fruit and then…a very large COCOBEAN TREE... pardon…. STOPPPP THE VANNN! Upon further exploration, inside the fruit were coco beans individually wrapped in sap…. somehow, after much processing the coco bean is transformed into the edible delight CHOCOLATE! Who knew! (Picture to prove it!) Thank you to the Gonzalez family for their amazing hospitality and good times, especially Minervo and Nissia for welcoming us into their home and hosting such a great authentic lunch! Thanks again to the Carpenter Hospice!
